Soon after college, I was offered a 2yr Ballet Scholarship! Yeah, the high school jock and class clown w/ only the previous year of dance to his credit was soon dancing 6hrs/day M-F, and 3hrs on Sat. I was in the best shape of my life.... LOL. I then bought a motorcycle, and started a job at a coffee house/bookstore.
After about a year, I started to get that itch. I still wanted to be an actor. My favorite actors Glenn Close & Ben Kingsley did both film and theatre. So, I thought.... I gotta move to New York!!! A week or so later, the NY Cosmos soccer team was here in San Diego to play in the Soccer Bowl'82 NASL Championship. I was closing up at the coffee house when some of NY Cosmos Cheerleaders walked in. One of the cheerleaders and I hit it off, and she gave me her number and said..... If you're ever in NY you got a place to stay. Fast forward two weeks. Again, I'm working at the coffee house, when in walks an Italian man and his family. Whenever I was working the old style pull lever espresso machine I was always putting on a show. The man said.... well, that's quite the show, but let's see if your coffee's any good. He tasted it. Tasted it again, and said.... It was one of the best cups of coffee he's ever had. I live in NY, he said, and have an Italian restaurant in Manhattan. If I ever moved to NY, he added, I'd have a job waiting for me. A job, and a place to stay. Holy sh*t!!! I sold my motorcycle, and with $800. in my pocket.... I moved to NYC....aaaaaaand that's when everything went sideways. |
Best Wedding Dance Ever First of all..... We had to pick a day I could easily remember, so we got married on Jan.1st. It helped that it fell on Saturday during the holidays, making it easier for everyone to attend. Of course, that would make the night before New Years Eve.... So I'm pretty sure a lot of people were hungover....LOL (we tied the knot around 7pm, giving all a chance to recover....it's only fair).
As you might note in the photos, we did a 30's-40's theme event. We loved swing dancing. What we lacked in moves, we made up for in Style & Enthusiasm. But we really wanted to do it right, so we were going to take classes..... We got too busy, and never made it. Our power move? Our first dance started slow with Frank Sinatra's "Best Is Yet To Come". About 3/4 the way through the song, the band (TheStepSister's) breaks into Benny Goodman's crazy "Sing, Sing, Sing". Remember, we didn't practice anything. Literally no ideas... We just went for it!!! At one point I left the floor, and Tracer to "go for herself." She owned it. I'm running to the back and around the seats, and as I enter the top of the center aisle, heading back and still running, I start tearing off my jacket, and waving it above my head like a lasso....LOL. As I reach the dance floor I toss the jacket and jump to my knees in a slide that's at least 15ft, and come to a stop perfectly at Tracer's side!!! 200+ Friends and Family went Absolutely Nuts!!! Side note: Because of the slide, I had to "Sharpie" the knees of the tux before returning. ;) |
